Creative Rationale
Over the frozen Arctic Ocean north of central Siberia, where sea ice meets the bitter polar atmosphere, this location experiences the harsh beauty of extreme cold at -3.5 Kelvin with remarkably high humidity creating an almost mystical, luminous quality to the air. The low pressure system and gentle winds from the west-southwest suggest a contemplative, breathing movement in the atmosphere, while the intense cold calls for Rothko's deepest contemplative palette of ultramarine blues and near-blacks.
