Satellite Color Palettes
Every day, the system downloads true-color satellite imagery from Copernicus Sentinel-2 — the European Space Agency's Earth observation satellite constellation orbiting 786 km above the surface. From a rotating set of 30 visually striking locations — the Sahara's orange dunes, Patagonia's glacial blues, the Okavango Delta's green waterways — the dominant colors are extracted using median cut quantization, building a seasonal archive of Earth's real palette as seen from space.
Each palette includes 5–7 dominant colors sorted by visual prominence, a satellite source thumbnail, and an AI-generated mood description that captures the aesthetic character of the landscape. Locations rotate by season to track how the planet's colors shift throughout the year.
