Creative Rationale
Over the Arctic Ocean at 60°N on the Prime Meridian, where the Greenland Sea meets the polar ice edge, an intense low pressure system drives fierce winds through the frigid darkness. The extremely cold temperature of 7.3 Kelvin creates a palette of deep midnight blues and near-blacks, while the low pressure manifests as two dominant color bands that fill the canvas with brooding presence. The strong 15.5 m/s winds blur the boundaries between these color fields, creating the soft, breathing edges characteristic of Rothko's most contemplative works, while the high humidity adds an ethereal luminosity that makes the dark colors seem to glow from within like aurora against the polar night.
