Creative Rationale
Over the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, northwest of Baffin Island in the frozen waters between Ellesmere and Devon Islands, the atmosphere holds a contemplative stillness. The extreme cold of -7.9K creates a meditative palette of deep ultramarine blues and charcoal blacks, while the near-complete saturation at 98% humidity makes these arctic colors seem to emit an ethereal inner luminosity. The gentle 2 m/s wind from the southwest creates soft, breathing boundaries between two massive horizontal color fields that fill this polar landscape with Rothko's signature sense of infinite depth and spiritual quietude.
