Creative Rationale
Over the Arctic waters northeast of Baffin Bay, where the frigid air carries minimal moisture across the barren seascape, the moderate wind and high pressure create a tension between violent gestural energy and spatial compression. The bitter cold temperature anomaly drives a palette dominated by icy greys and stark blacks, with only fleeting passages of flesh tones breaking through the frozen brutality. The absence of precipitation allows for pure, undiluted slashing marks that cut across the surface with aggressive diagonal force, while the high humidity adds a thick, viscous quality to the paint-like forms pressing against the picture plane.
