Creative Rationale
Over the windswept highlands of central Asia near the Mongolian border, where extreme cold meets moderate wind activity, the atmosphere creates a dynamic tension between stillness and motion. The brutal -244°C temperature drives a palette of muted earth tones with stark icy whites, while the 8.6 m/s winds from the northwest push color fragments toward the southeastern edges of the composition. The low pressure and dry conditions create sparse but intense color pools that cluster at the canvas borders, leaving expansive luminous negative space in the center like Francis's late period works.
