Creative Rationale

Over the tropical Atlantic east of the Lesser Antilles, high pressure dominates with gentle easterly winds and warm, humid conditions. The substantial pressure gradient and moderate wind speed inspire concentrated color pools that burst outward from multiple points, while the warm temperature calls for luminous saturated hues of cadmium red and ultramarine blue. The high humidity and zero precipitation create a dense, saturated atmosphere where colors bleed and flow into each other, leaving generous white breathing space in the central canvas as Francis often employed in his later works.
