Creative Rationale

This artwork interprets the atmosphere above the Southern Ocean at 60 degrees south latitude, directly south of the Atlantic Ocean in the harsh Antarctic waters. The extreme cold temperature of -5.4K creates a deeply contemplative palette of ultramarine blues and near-blacks, while the low pressure of 960.1 Pa compresses the composition into two massive color fields that dominate the canvas. The high humidity of 91% infuses these dark bands with an inner luminosity, making them glow like aurora against the polar night, while the moderate wind from the south creates softly vibrating boundaries between the color masses.
