Creative Rationale
Over the remote Arctic Ocean northwest of Canada's Mackenzie Delta, this frigid expanse experiences extraordinarily low atmospheric pressure creating a zone of atmospheric instability. The bitter cold temperature of 11.5 Kelvin (-261°F) combined with moderate westerly winds and the low pressure gradient manifests as heavy pools of saturated color concentrated at the canvas edges, while the extreme cold transforms Francis's typical warm primaries into ice-shocked purples and steel blues with only sparse bursts of cadmium warmth fighting through the frozen atmosphere.
