Creative Rationale
Over the equatorial Atlantic west of the Cape Verde Islands, warm tropical air carries high humidity across calm seas under stable atmospheric pressure. The moderate easterly winds and elevated temperature anomaly create conditions ripe for Frankenthaler's signature color-field approach, where the high humidity translates to deeply translucent washes that layer and intermingle. With no precipitation to create pooling effects, the colors instead spread as gentle stains across the canvas, guided by the wind's northeastern drift, while the warm temperature anomaly calls for luminous salmon and golden ochre fields bleeding into cooler teal margins.
