Creative Rationale
Over the Altiplano of Bolivia and Peru, where the Andes reach toward the sky at extreme altitude, the atmospheric data reveals conditions of stark intensity - bitter cold at 7.1 K, bone-dry air at 23% humidity, and virtually no wind movement in the thin atmosphere. I've interpreted these harsh, crystalline conditions through Sam Francis's visual language of explosive color energy, but constrained and concentrated: the extreme cold drives a palette of deep ultramarines and icy whites with minimal warmth, while the low pressure and still air create dense accumulations of color that cling to the canvas edges like frozen pools, leaving vast expanses of luminous white space to breathe in the center - echoing the spare, oxygen-thin environment of this high-altitude wilderness.
