Creative Rationale
Over the Southern Ocean at 45 degrees south latitude along the Prime Meridian, fierce winds whip across the dark waters in the heart of the "Roaring Forties." The extremely cold temperature of 9.1 Kelvin creates an otherworldly, almost cosmic chill that calls for Rothko's deepest contemplative palette of midnight blues and blacks. The moderate-low pressure suggests two primary color bands that dominate the canvas, while the strong 13.7 m/s winds blur and vibrate the boundaries between forms, and the high 82% humidity makes these dark colors seem to pulse with an inner luminosity despite their somber tones.
