Creative Rationale
Over the Canadian Arctic Archipelago northeast of Baffin Island, where frigid waters meet the polar atmosphere, this extreme cold temperature of -268°C creates a stark, crystalline environment despite the high humidity and light precipitation. The moderate wind from the northeast drives scattered bursts of muted color across the composition, while the standard sea-level pressure allows for dense accumulations of desaturated hues at the canvas edges. Following Sam Francis's aesthetic, I've created pools of subdued earth tones and icy blues that cluster around the perimeter, leaving expansive luminous white space in the center to breathe, with wind-driven splatters extending inward like frozen breath in the arctic air.
