Creative Rationale
Over the vast steppes of central Asia, near the borders of Mongolia and Kazakhstan, an unusual atmospheric pattern unfolds with extremely low pressure creating dramatic conditions at high altitude. The bitter cold temperature of -250°C combined with moderate northerly winds and dry air creates a composition where muted, icy color pools gather at the canvas edges while the low pressure draws saturated pigments into dense accumulations. The moderate wind energy pushes color splatters outward in controlled bursts, leaving expansive luminous white space in the center as Francis often achieved in his late period works.
