Creative Rationale
Over the tropical Atlantic southeast of Bermuda, where warm ocean waters meet the subtropical ridge, a zone of high pressure creates stable but humid conditions. The moderate southeast wind at 9.3 m/s drives energetic color explosions radiating from multiple centers, while the high pressure of 1023.8 Pa concentrates saturated pools of cadmium red, ultramarine blue, and viridian green toward the canvas edges. The warm temperature anomaly and 80% humidity translate into luminous, saturated hues that burst outward in gestural splatters, leaving expansive white breathing space in the composition's heart, characteristic of Francis's late period where color migrates to the periphery.
