Creative Rationale

Over the remote waters of the South Atlantic near the Greenwich meridian at 60 degrees south latitude, an area of intense low pressure creates dramatic atmospheric turbulence in the frigid Antarctic waters. The extremely cold temperature of -18.3K with its massive positive anomaly, combined with strong westerly winds at 9.1 m/s and near-saturated humidity, drives my interpretation toward Sam Francis's most explosive compositions where color erupts outward from concentrated cores. The low pressure manifests as dense pools of muted, cold-toned colors accumulated at the canvas edges, while the strong wind energy creates chaotic splatters and gestural marks that reach inward, leaving luminous white breathing space in the center to represent the harsh, crystalline Antarctic atmosphere.
