Creative Rationale

Over the Arctic Ocean at 60°N on the prime meridian, where the Greenland Sea meets the edge of the polar ice cap, extreme cold dominates with temperatures of -261°F creating a harsh, monochromatic environment. The moderate wind speed of 8.6 m/s from the west-southwest generates controlled undulating patterns, while the significant pressure gradient creates tightly packed parallel lines that seem to vibrate with optical intensity. Following Riley's early black-and-white period, this piece uses pure monochrome with precisely calculated wave frequencies that reflect the mathematical relationship between wind velocity and visual rhythm.
