Creative Rationale
Over the vast steppes of central Mongolia, where the continental interior creates extreme atmospheric conditions, this location experiences the harsh reality of high-altitude winter with temperatures plunging to -46°C and bone-dry air at 27% humidity. The moderate northerly winds and extremely low pressure create a dynamic tension that I've interpreted through Sam Francis's signature approach of explosive color energy contained within expansive breathing space. The frigid temperatures drive a palette of cooler primaries—deep ultramarines and viridian greens—while the moderate wind energy pushes gestural splatters and organic forms toward the canvas edges, leaving the center dominated by luminous negative space that reflects the sparse, wind-swept landscape.
