Creative Rationale
This location places us over the remote Southern Ocean near the Antarctic Peninsula, where fierce westerly winds and sub-freezing temperatures create one of Earth's most hostile marine environments. The moderate wind speed of 9.4 m/s translates into aggressive diagonal slashes cutting across the composition, while the brutal -1.4K temperature demands a palette dominated by cold greys and blacks with only fleeting passages of warmer flesh tones. The high pressure creates spatial compression, forcing violent gestural marks to press aggressively against the picture plane in true de Kooning fashion.
