Creative rationale
Over the frozen waters of Baffin Bay near Greenland, where Arctic winds carry whispers of distant warmth across the ice-locked landscape. The moderate wind speed and relatively high pressure create a composition where color gathers in concentrated pools rather than explosive dispersal, while the surprising temperature anomaly of 12.8°C above normal translates into unexpected bursts of warm cadmium yellows and reds breaking through the cooler blue-green Arctic palette. The high humidity manifests as soft, bleeding edges where colors merge and flow into the luminous white negative space that dominates the center, creating breathing room reminiscent of Francis's later compositional approach.
