Creative Rationale

This artwork captures the atmospheric conditions over the tropical Atlantic Ocean, approximately 350 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean Sea. The extremely cold temperature of 28.5 K (-244°C) with its significant anomaly from normal suggests an upper atmospheric phenomenon, which I interpret through Rothko's contemplative dark period using deep ultramarine blues and near-blacks. The moderate-high pressure creates three distinct color bands with breathing room between them, while the moderate westerly wind generates soft, blurred boundaries that seem to vibrate and pulse, enhanced by the high humidity which gives each color field an inner luminosity.
