Creative Rationale
Over the Southern Ocean southeast of the Kerguelen Islands, this remote maritime location experiences intense atmospheric dynamics with strong westerly winds and relatively mild temperatures for such high latitudes. The extremely cold temperature of 8.2 K drives the composition toward Rothko's darkest contemplative palette of deep ultramarines and blacks, while the high humidity of 81% creates an inner luminosity that makes these dark fields seem to glow against the void. The strong 16.4 m/s winds blur the boundaries between the color bands, creating soft vibrating edges that breathe with oceanic rhythm, and the moderate sea-level pressure suggests three floating bands of color suspended in the vast Antarctic darkness.
