Creative Rationale
Over the Southern Ocean southeast of the Kerguelen Islands, where sub-Antarctic waters churn beneath mercurial skies, low pressure creates a compressed atmospheric tension that translates into forms pressed against the picture plane like organisms trapped between glass slides. The moderate humidity of 65% allows biomorphic shapes to maintain some structural integrity while their edges dissolve and bleed, while the significant temperature anomaly of 10.8K above normal generates tortured, distorted forms that seem to writhe with internal heat against the cool oceanic environment. Wind from the northwest at nearly 15 m/s carves aggressive gestural marks through thin precipitous washes, creating the layered complexity of memory and dream that hovers between the anatomical and the atmospheric.
