Creative Rationale
Over the Southern Ocean at 45°S latitude on the Prime Meridian, this location sits in the heart of the turbulent "Roaring Forties" where powerful westerly winds create some of Earth's most dynamic weather systems. The strong 16.6 m/s westerly wind becomes violent diagonal slashes cutting across the canvas, while the high humidity and low pressure create an oppressive atmosphere where thick gestural forms press aggressively against the picture plane. The cold temperature with its unusual positive anomaly translates into a palette where icy greys and blacks dominate, punctuated by surprising bursts of warm flesh tones and cadmium yellow where the temperature anomaly breaks through like torn fabric revealing heated underlayers.
