Creative Rationale
Over the high plateau regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan, where thin mountain air creates unusually low atmospheric pressure, gentle westerly winds carry dry continental air across the stark landscape. The extremely cold temperature of -250°C with low humidity and absent precipitation suggests an upper atmospheric layer, while the modest wind speed and low pressure gradient create conditions for Francis's signature technique of color pooling at canvas edges with expansive luminous breathing space at the center. I've interpreted this sparse, high-altitude atmosphere through scattered bursts of saturated color that cling to the composition's periphery, leaving vast white expanses that echo the thin, crystalline air of these elevated regions.
