Creative rationale
Over the inland Pacific Northwest, roughly between the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia River plateau in Washington or Oregon, an unusual atmospheric condition prevails with extremely low pressure and bitter cold temperatures creating a contemplative, almost meditative environment. The extraordinarily low sea-level pressure of 855.8 hPa calls for just two massive color bands that dominate the canvas, while the frigid 9.4°C temperature (-263°C) demands the deepest, most somber palette of Rothko's contemplative period - rich midnight blues transitioning to near-black depths. The high 74% humidity creates an inner luminosity that makes these dark colors seem to glow from within, while the gentle 1.9 m/s wind softens all boundaries into breathing, vibrating edges that pulse with quiet intensity.
