Creative Rationale

Over the high Andes of southeastern Peru, where extreme altitude creates an otherworldly atmospheric environment, the brutal cold of 5.3°C and moderate pressure gradient suggest a stark, crystalline landscape of sparse air and biting winds. The moderate wind from the northwest carries delicate processions of marks across a deep blue-black ground, while the significant cold anomaly drives the palette toward stark whites and icy blues against near-black depths. The moderate humidity creates subtle atmospheric veiling that softens the gestural marks without overwhelming them, allowing Lewis's characteristic calligraphic clusters to drift like ice crystals or distant bird formations across the canvas.
