Creative rationale
Over the Canadian Arctic archipelago northwest of the Northwest Territories, where sea ice meets the Beaufort Sea, an unusual warm anomaly of 16.0°C above normal creates a pocket of relative mildness at 0.9°C despite the harsh latitude. The extremely low pressure of 881.0 hPa with its steep gradient suggests an intense low-pressure system, which I interpret as dense pools of saturated color accumulating at the canvas edges, while the gentle 1.9 m/s wind from the southwest creates modest gestural splatters rather than explosive energy. The high humidity of 83% and absence of precipitation translates to heavy, moisture-laden color fields with luminous white breathing space dominating the center, following Francis's later compositional approach of color migration toward the periphery.
