Creative Rationale
Over the Arctic Ocean northeast of Alaska and northwest of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, extreme cold dominates with temperatures near absolute zero creating a harsh, crystalline atmosphere. The moderate wind from the northwest and very low atmospheric pressure inspire dense, energetic brushwork in steely blues and winter whites, while the dry conditions allow for more open passages between gestural clusters. This creates a composition of accumulated marks that suggest the memory of brutal cold and the luminous quality of arctic light breaking through storm systems.
