Creative Rationale

Over the Arctic Ocean northwest of Canada's Yukon Territory, extreme cold and moderate winds create a harsh winter landscape. The extremely low temperature of 12.5°C drives a palette of steely winter blues and crystalline whites, while the moderate wind from the southwest creates diagonal gestural energy across the composition. The low sea-level pressure calls for dense, dark passages that allow luminous ground to breathe through in places, and the dry conditions suggest more open gestural clusters rather than dense overlapping marks.
